Genetically Modified Organisms: Can you spot the difference?

Look at this picture.

Beautiful apples, both. Look closer. Which is more appealing? My, my, my... that one on the left is so big. The color is so bright. No blemishes....not even one little spot. it actually is shiny without washing. It almost looks like a wax carving of the perfect American apple. Even the portion size is quintessentially American. Its as big as a grapefruit!

Now the sweet little apple on the right. Technically they are the same 'type' of apple, Honeycrisp, but wow..they sure look different. Its smaller, the color is there only slightly more dull. There are small blemishes here and there, but overall an appealing snack.

Which would you choose ⁉️

Now for the KICKER: our big FAT apple cost me less!!! Now, come on, Americans...we know value when we see it... OF COURSE we would pick the fruit on the left.

Here is what you DON'T KNOW:

That bit fat apple is a non-Organic product of a farming corporation that utilizes bio-engineering to produce a Genetically Modified Organism (this apple) that is more appealing to its consumer. It has been genetically altered to become resistant to pests and herbicides which increases agricultural yields in unit size and harvest production, appeals to the consuming population, and is overall lower in cost per unit to 'manufacture'. In addition, this fruit was kept from decline during its growth stage with Pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides.

GMO's produced utilizing pesticides contain trace toxins called Bacillus Thuringiensis (BT)Toxin. This toxin is linked to the following health concerns with chronicle exposure:

  • Hormone disruption

  • Skin/eye and lung irritation

  • Brain and nervous system toxicity

  • cancer

  • blood disorders

  • Birth defects

  • Reproductive effects

NOW - how does this affect you and your family ⁉️

  • Currently GMOs in the United States don't get tested for their carcinogenic potential and the negative repercussions of biodiversity.

  • 75% of processed foods sold in the United States contain one or more GMO item...that mean

  • As of today, the FDA does not test to determine the % amounts of this trace toxin that is in these GMO foods.

  • Long term/extreme exposure in children who regularly eat GMOs or live near farms utilizing these pesticides and herbicides can have: impaired hand/eye coordination, decreased physical stamina, short term memory impairment and trouble writing.

➡️ Can you see now the reason my blood started to boil when my groceries were delivered this week from my corporate wholesale supplier? Its really my fault, I made the mistake for forgetting to specify I wanted Organic/non GMO produce.

The simple solution?

  1. Buy certified organic

  2. Look for the NON-GMO label and stay away from processed food as much as possible..and when you must buy it...pay more for the certification that your food does not contain toxins aka 'Non-GMO"

  3. Know where your produce and protein is coming from - buy local

  4. Bigger isn't better. if it looks absurdly big...its not just a fatter chicken or bigger apple...its been BIO-ENGINEERED. Nothing about that is good for you.

  5. SPEND your money on organic, if you can, as often as possible. if not, refer to the Dirty Dozen of food items that retain the most toxins (see picture) to pick an choose where to spend a little extra.
